WASTE COLLECTION

Waste management has been a major and worrying challenge in Haiti for several decades. Most of the Municipalities responsible for this management are confronted with considerable deficits in terms of collection; therefore, through the collection service that we offer to the inhabitants of the Carrefour municipality, we contribute directly to reducing the number of household waste that ends up on the street, in the oceans or burned in the open air. The mechanism is simple. Customers subscribe to the service, they receive bins as well as a short training session on how to selectively sort the waste they will put in the bins. Our agents pick up their waste twice during the week.
On average, we collect fifty tons of waste every month for a workforce of 1,300 households. And the number keeps growing.
NATURAL COMPOST
Until the 1970s, Haiti was food sovereign. It could produce enough food to feed its entire population. But according to studies dating back to 2014, Haiti produces barely 40% of the food that its inhabitants consume. Yet Haiti has a rich agricultural potential.
One of the reasons for this situation is the chemical fertilizers used in the fields. These degrade rapidly on contact with chemical agents contained in fertilizers and pesticides manufactured in the laboratory. To this, we offer as an alternative a natural fertilizer (compost) made with waste collected at the household level. Being completely natural, this compost, instead of deteriorating the quality of arable land, enriches it.

PAVING BRICKS
Haiti is a country where everything is to be done, according to a report by the Ministry of Public Works, 50% of the territory is nationally poorly connected, while entire regions remain isolated for several days at a time during the rainy season. The rural access index (RAI, 2015) for Haiti is around 39 percent and the tertiary and rural networks are in very poor condition as they are barely passable. A square foot of ordinary paving brick costs an average of $5. This means that there is a fairly interesting market for these products.
The paving brick that AD offers, in addition to being solid, is an ecological product in the sense that the materials used for its manufacture come from waste collected all over the country. Indeed, to make an ordinary brick, you need sand, water and cement, while for our brick we only use sand and melted plastic waste which serves as a binder for the sand.

The protection of the environment does not only protect the purity of the air or the safety of the waters. It also tends to protect the human being. It is not the environment that will die of cancer, lung disorder or other, but man. That is why we must invest in environmental protection.
